The 5 Gears: knowing which gear you are in

Just like a car, every part of the day has a right gear. The 5 Gears give your team a shared way to name when to focus, when to connect and when to recharge - and to read the gear everyone else is in.

What is the 5 Gears?

The 5 Gears is a leadership framework from GiANT Worldwide that uses a car's gearbox as a metaphor for the modes people move through in a day, from full focus to full presence with others. Long Table is a certified GiANT practitioner and delivers the 5 Gears as a team workshop.

The framework

Each gear is a mode of presence. Most people default to one or two and get stuck there - the work is learning to shift on purpose.

Where this framework comes from

The 5 Gears is a GiANT Worldwide framework, developed by Jeremie Kubicek and Steve Cockram and set out in the book 5 Gears: How to Be Present and Productive When There Is Never Enough Time. Long Table did not create it - we are certified to deliver it, and what we add is the facilitation, tailoring and follow-through that make it stick inside a specific team.

Bring the 5 Gears to your team

Tell us what is happening with your team and we will tell you honestly whether the 5 Gears is the right starting point - or whether something else fits better.
